In today’s economic environment people are generally looking for bargains and or ways to use alternate products to save money that will still get the job done. In the motorcycle market some of you are using diesel oils and a few automotive oils to save money on servicing your bikes. With this said I would like to let you know that at AMSOIL we have several synthetic oils that meet motorcycle and wet clutch spec’s that are priced lower than our premium motorcycle oils. For those of you that still want to use a diesel oil in your bike we can save you money on that product as well, although we are not recommending it's use in your bike. Some of these lower priced synthetic oils will save over $3.00 a quart at retail prices placing them just a dollar or two above dino oil prices. Spending an extra $5.00 to $10.00 on an oil change is peanuts when compared to gas prices since gas is used in a hurry, but good oil is working for you for many miles before it’s work is done.

Our AMSOIL dealer group is offering bottom line prices to forum members so when dealing with us you are saving money on AMSOIL products plus helping support this site through our advertising dollars.

A few questions for you on this topic.

First... How easy is it to switch to and FROM synthetic based oils? I've heard using a synthetic oil once tends to require you to remain using a synthetic oil. Is this a myth?

That leads to my second question... What are the major influences on the price of synthetic oil and are they relatively stable? As you said, I'm not too worried about spending a few extra dollars but I don't want to find out later that my extra few dollars turns into EXTRA dollars. Especially if the transition from synthetic oil has some issues.

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the questions.

First question: Myth...... Although it is not recommended to keep changing brands and types at will, there is no truth about changing back to a petroleum oil OR a certain time/mileage limit when changing to a Synthetic.. You can switch to synthetic at your first service.

Synthetic oil, just as any oil, fluctuates with the market. Right now, AMSOIL was the first oil manufacturer to have a Price Decrease as of March 1st '09.

Although small, most companies would have pocketed the extra revenue instead of adjusting prices down.

I don't look at the initial cost, I look at Cost Per Mile or Overall Cost of Ownership. The extended drains plus the added benefits of running AMSOIL outweigh the cost.. Cooler oil temps, smoother shifting and great clutch performance due to our JASO MA2 Rating.

Through Analysis on my H-D, I am at 9500 miles on a change Interval. That bike has an aftermarket exhaust and race tuner kit dumping in extra fuel to keep the temps down. I also ride with the bike loaded, 2 up much of the time and pulling a trailer all the time, usually loaded. I have gone down the road in excess of 2000 lbs.

At just 1.5 yrs old and sat through 2 winters, I have 25,000 miles on it.

Thanks again, Bob
