: QD ex box underbike exhaust
motowheels.com 06-22-2009, 02:04 PM Attached are some photos of QD's protoype "Ex-box" underbike exhaust.
We have been using the Ducati Monster Ex Boxes with great success. We were interested in your thoughts for the Buell.

CBP7884D 06-23-2009, 01:13 PM I like it!
Is the finished product going to be painted or polished?
Any sound clips?
motowheels.com 06-23-2009, 02:05 PM The standard product is a brushed finish, but we have been ceramic coating them in matte black here in the USA on the monsters.

In Italy, they are experimenting with a different ceramic process similar to what they use on cooking surfaces. We coated our Ducati 1098 project bike in their gloss black ceramic finish.
If it works out well, this will be an option from the factory.

I don't have any sound clips yet of the Buell yet--but the Monsters sound like P51 fighter planes...
I'll post the sound clips when I get them.

motowheels.com 07-01-2009, 12:53 PM Here is a picture of the more traditional single pipe set up:

CBP7884D 07-02-2009, 12:54 AM That single pipe setup looks nice, but similar to the Jardine or HMF setup. I still like the style and uniqueness of the ex box design. I really hope you guys go through with the ex box.
Christian1125R 09-04-2009, 07:57 PM Any power gains or sound clips?
Randy Bowers 10-19-2009, 02:20 PM Any power gains or sound clips?
Yep, Same question here, what does it do to the performance of the bike?
motowheels.com 10-20-2009, 02:01 PM I only have the dyno sheets from the 2-1 system from QD:

nickg 11-27-2009, 08:51 PM how much and when will these be available? can you get a Termi slip on setup?>
I had a meeting with Martin from Motowheels tonight, as a result of that there will be more attention paid to the Buell 1125 from this point on. I've agreed to assist in the upgrade research, I have already come up with a laundry list that need attention. I'll be presenting the list next week and we will also survey it for upgrade compatibility. I really like the bike and learned fairly quickly theres not much out there in terms of upgrades for our them. That is why the ball got rolling quickly in this case. You can find anything you want when it comes to the Ducati, the only thing stopping you is money.
I'm optimistic we will come up with some very nice products, items you will want for your bike. Some of the areas we are discussing: handlebar control upgrades, cf, wheels, exhausts and misc items to be announced. I'm cautiously hopeful about the light weight wheels, the singlemost best upgrade you can make for your bike.
Nickg, I'll find out more on this next week and post up. We have already talked about contacting a couple of excellent pipe people, we will see what they have to say.
nickg 11-28-2009, 11:10 AM john, I think what you will see is that alot of former(and current) Ducati owners bought these 1125's. I was a ducati customer for Motowheels prior to me getting this 1125cr. I WAS going to buy a new Duc, but when the prices went down on the Buell, I bought it instead. I see this al;ot on other boards. seems a common thread. Shame Buell went out as they had tons of conquest sales from Ducati on these bikes.
Hello Nick,
I think you are right on. The draw of the V Twin is strong, like the force, lol. I keep catching some friendly razing from my fellow Ducati Club members, but to be honest I really like this bike. Especially after I adjusted the suspension.
I like the bike so much and recognize there aren't many aftermarket options for it that I've been talking to I believe the right people with a menu of upgrades I would like to see become available.
We will be doing a bike survey next week in order to launch our upgrade project. However, we will start of simple and the first is a group buy offering for a more exact rear swingarm spool for the 1125.
Standby for more to come and some surprises as well.
jchaves 12-09-2009, 04:53 PM Would be more visibly appealing if the box followed the engine contour...
I don't think the Xbox exhaust is going to fly anyway, I wouldn't bet on it.
elsonico 12-16-2009, 02:47 PM so I finally installed the QD and all I can say is WOW!
this is what it looks like:

I just managed to ride about 3km, it's f****** cold in Germany, but the sound is fantastic and the power seems to kick in at about 2000rpm instead of 4000 with the stock exhaust.
If the weather gets better, I'll post a video.
first impressions so far: GREAT!
elsonico 12-28-2009, 09:41 AM finally, I was able to make a short soundcheck:
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xbnyev_buell-1125cr-with-qd-exhaust_auto
unfortunetly the video is about 10x as quiet as the real thing...but you get an idea of what it sounds like!
That sounds fantastic. I'm sold on the sound. The looks are OK, not much you can do with a single exhaust on a Buell. They are all pretty much designed that way underneath. I wish the front part of the exhaust could be brought closer in to the motor, following its contour. Thats OK because I really like the sound and that is the most important. :D It would be great to get some dyno numbers, I wonder if QD has any numbers available?
Where did you buy it and was the install pretty straight forward?
elsonico 12-30-2009, 03:50 AM Here are the dyno numbers by QD:
http://img692.imageshack.us/img692/930/93272914.jpg
green: QD blue: stock
The exhaust sounds 10x more aggressive and louder when you're standing next to it, my little camera couldn't capture it.
Install was a piece of cake, apart of 1 screw that took me ages to losen it, but this one was attached to the stock exhaust.
I bought it online in the UK, here: http://www.trojan-horse.co.uk/prods/367.html
still expensive, but half the price of other systems. I'd by it againm no question.
