Ulysses - the journey begins...

I guess the name fits since Ulysses was a epic adventurer and traveler. I've heard some great things about it for two up riding and I hear it's got an incredibly smooth ride. Love to read some feedback if you own one!

First Impressions.

Well I picked up the new Uly Saturday. And after 3 days I have roughly 150 miles logged.

1) Motor torque is excellent. It is very easy to pull away without excessive revving.

2) The sweet spot in the motor is pretty narrow, but it is where I like it.

3) Brakes are touchy but quite effective. I am still used to the old iron.

4) The front end dives quite a bit. But that is the trade I suppose.

5) Smooth ride. MY GOD it is smooth!

6) Very flickable for a touring bike.

7) Two up riding is good. But you can feel the extra weight.

I am having some issues with the engine hiccups after stop light idle. The motor want to backfire. There is no excuse for this on a fuel injected machine. After break-in I will be addressing this with my dealer. But first I want to put in a fresh tank of fuel.

I like everything about mine except the excessive engine heat. On the other hand everthing I ride in the desert is HOT. Also does any one have a suggestion for a good throttle lock for the Ully?

Bought a Ulysses a couple on months ago here in New Zealand. Very impressed so far can't wait to get some good miles under my belt over summer. Like the smooth torque of the vee twin.

The hard luggage is great - no more backpacks.

I've had my Uly for a year and a half now, and I just love it. Traded in a Road Glide for it and never looked back. So far, 7500 miles, with a trip planned to Florida in 2 weeks. Went to the 25th, road it at the track, the bike never ceases to amaze me.

I agree

I got my Ulysses about 9 months and 7,000 miles ago. I Love my bike. I was heading for a new Fat Bob originally but I saw my Thrust Blue Ulysses and it was the total package bike for me. I love to get on dirt as often as I can find it. I even take it on goat trails in the woods behind my house. I rode it into a Moto cross track day last weekend and everyone was checkin it out.

The longest ride I have been on in one day has been about 230 miles. I really want to venture out farther when the weather warms up a bit. I think I might even pack up my pup tent, sleepin bag and let it roll!

You guys be safe out there.

later
Rick

Hiccups wont go away and you dealer wont have a solution. I have two uly's with over 14000 miles on them (2008 and a 2009). Just get used to them. Get yourself a spare forward muffler clamp an a tool kit they'll come in handy at about 3000 miles.

There is something called a comfort kit for the Uly, you can order form your dealer. It exhausts the engine heat some where else not on your right leg. It works great. The same service flash calls for the dealer to remap the engine computer, so the cooling fan runs at a different time. The kit cost about 120 bucks, I was charged one hours labor, 75.00. The kit really does correct the heat problem, and the bike runs better, runs a little richer when cold, and that annoying spit back, which shouldn't happen with fuel injection is almost completely gone. I tried to get the dealer to pick up the cost of parts and labor , or part of it, but that didn't happen. It was worth the money, the heat problem is gone, and it runs much better. I love the bike.
