2000 blast makes a crunching/Knocking noise when trying to start it.

I just uncovered the bike today which has been sitting out side through out winter. I was going to change all the oil before starting it but i do not have a filter yet, its been ordered. So i thought that i would just drain what oil came out of the hoses only (just over 600ml drain out a bit less then i would have thought )added 946ml new oil thinking the oil was on the lower side when i put the bike away.

So i tried starting it and it took a few tries turning over to sound normal the way i would expect it to sound with out firing. i must have tried at least 10 to 15 time to start it holding the starter on average 3 to 5 seconds with most times it turned over a bit faster each time then the second to last time starting it, it turned over 2 to 4 (did not fire) times then heard a loud crunch/knocking sound once. It did not sound good . i tried starting again a minute or so later and the same thing happened turned over 2 to 4 (did not fire) times then crunch.

For storing the bike through winter all i did was add fuel stabiliser in the gas tank, shut the fuel off and run it dry and remove the battery.
I am after understanding what the crunching sound maybe? have my actions or non action contributed to it? maybe an idea of what i could do? Its just the nearest bike shop is 200 km away and Buell Shop 500 km.

I would appreciate any advice or suggestions
Thankyou
